Pru Bolus, June Vogltance & Cindy Baird at Spring 06 Quilt Market in Mpls., MN

Sun Print Batiks
(Approximately 95" x 110" wholecloth)

"Delicious Monster Leaf Sun Print Batik"
Hand Woven Baskets from Ghana, Africa

While attending quilt market in Mpls. Cindy and I had the good fortune to meet Pru Bolus, an amazing woman from South Africa whose small company creates the most beautiful wholecloth sun print batiks that we have ever seen.

These unique, handcrafted fabrics are inspired by the beauty and magic of nature. The magnificence of the sea, mountains, forests and complex floral kingdom surrounding the home of Pru Bolus and her husband, is reflected in the colors and designs of these beautiful pieces of cloth, Always working within environmentally sensitive boundaries, they use nontoxic dyes and recycle when possible. The sun dyeing takes place on their small farm in the Crags on the famous "Garden of Eden" in Western Cape, South Africa.
Production is limited by the time consuming hand dying and the season of September to May, since daylight is essential to Sun Cloth.
When ordering, specify a color range or combination that you prefer keeping in mind that each piece is unique, no two being exactly the same.

As Cindy and I shopped the market, we were intrigued by some wonderful hand woven baskets from Ghana, Africa. They are hand woven with twisted "Elephant Grass." that has been dyed mostly from plant extracts. The handle is covered with goat skin for a soft smooth finish and easy carrying. The baskets are virtually indestructible. Most of the weavers have about 10 years of weaving experience and belong to a weavers cooperative in northern Ghana. Take this basket to the market, the garden or quilt club meeting. If it gets out of shape, simply wet it and gently reshape it to it's original shape.
